As we step into the new year, Pokemon GO players are in for a treat with exciting prospects, including fresh events, the return of familiar characters, and the introduction of new Pokemon. January 2024 holds the promise of insights into the creators’ event management approach, building on the momentum from the previous year, which acted as a launching pad for various Paldean Monsters, leaving gamers eager to uncover the mysteries that lie ahead.
The excitement peaks as fans celebrate the 2024 Pokemon GO New Year’s event, but the thrill doesn’t stop there. Let’s delve into the five exciting elements that Niantic, the developers, have in store for players in 2024.
Niantic recently wrapped up the Pokemon GO Community Day catch-up event, a golden opportunity for trainers to catch up on any highlighted pocket monsters they might have missed until 2023. Known for its numerous Community Days and in-game events, the mobile game boasts features like increased spawns for specific Pokemon, improved shiny odds, new in-store items, shortened hatch lengths, extra experience points, and various bonuses.

Looking ahead, a New Year’s event for Pokemon GO has been unveiled on the official website. Scheduled to kick off on January 1, 2024, at 10 AM local time and concluding on January 3, 2024, at 8 PM local time, the event will introduce Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff, donned in two new Pokemon costumes adorned with ribbons. Field Research Tasks will put the spotlight on Gen 5 Pokemon Darumaka, increasing their encounter frequency in the wild. Avatars can grab Darumaka caps from the in-game store, and Egg Hatch Distances for users of the Pokemon GO Egg hatching widget will be reduced. The event promises shiny versions of pocket monsters, exclusive raids, Pokemon in humorous costumes, and in-game pyrotechnics as a festive bonus.
Furthermore, a variety of young Pokemon will hatch from 7km Eggs gathered during the event. Each region will feature a unique Five-Star Raid Pokemon: Pheromosa in Europe, Xurkitree in the Asia-Pacific area, and Buzzwole in the Americas. Mega Ampharos will take center stage as the Mega Raid Pokemon in every area.
The allure of capturing some of the rarest shinies in Pokemon GO is expected to draw many trainers to the event. Shiny Nidorino with a party hat, exceptionally rare due to limited past availability, stands out as a particular highlight. Timed exclusives, featuring Pokemon in unique attire, are a common occurrence in events like these, providing players with a brief window to catch some of the rarest species.
True to form, Niantic always has another event in the pipeline. January 6, 2024, marks the date for Niantic’s January Pokemon GO Community Day, featuring Rowlet, an Alolan Grass-type starting Pokemon.
During the Pokemon Go New Year’s 2024 event, players can encounter Jigglypuff wearing a ribbon, making its debut. Evolving Jigglypuff wearing a ribbon requires spending 50 Candy. Additionally, some Pokemon will be more common in the wild during the event, including Hoothoot decked out for the new year, Darumaka, and Bronzor. All these Pokemon, including the recently released Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff in costumes, can be found as shinies.
Throughout the New Year’s 2024 event, players can engage in various Timed and Field Research activities. Field Research assignments with an event theme can be obtained by spinning PokeStops, leading to encounters with Darukama and Bronzor upon successful completion.
Players also have the option to purchase a ticket for the Timed Research event-themed activity for $1.00 (or the equivalent in local currency). Completing these research assignments will reward trainers with Stardust, XP, PokeCoins, and encounters with Jigglypuff, Hoothoot, and Wurmple, all dressed for the holidays.
For those purchasing a Timed Research ticket, all assignments and prizes must be collected before January 3, 2024, at 8 PM. The stage is set for an exhilarating journey in the Pokemon GO universe in 2024, with events, new Pokemon, and unique experiences awaiting trainers worldwide.
